3D printed Nomai Translator from Outer Wilds with a small support to hold it standing 🪐 It's around 29.5cm height, 35.9cm width and 15.3 deep, and is available in 2 versions, with and without electronics (details below).

The screen has a small slit on the left side allowing to switch the screen paper and you can order additional ones if you want. There is one screen paper included by default and without instructions I put the Solanum one that you can see on the photos but you can provide me any quote that you wish, and I propose you to have additional screens if you cannot decide!

Translator with electronics

With electronics, the translator has a few lights, 2 small bulbs, one a the top left corner from the screen and the other one on the scanner above the right block, and there is an electroluminescent strip inside the screen to enlighten it.

There is also a motor that rotates the cassette in the right block (be aware that the rotation can be imperfect as you can see in the video, but it works!).

To control everything, there are the 3 switches on the right doing as follows:

  1. switches on and off the whole circuit
  2. enables the lights
  3. enables the motor

Be aware that the motor and the electroluminescent strip both work with an "inverter", being just a block (hidden inside the item) doing some electronic stuff but that makes a slight noise when powered.

The Translator can be powered autonomously with an A23 battery (not included) accessible from the bottom of the screen though the whole circuit struggles a little to have both the lights and motor working only with the battery power so I advise disabling the motor if used like that. The Translator can also be plugged using a DC 12V plug (that I include).

Translator without electronics

I also propose a version without electronics which makes the assembling much faster which reduces the price. With this version, the screen paper will be a printing on some glossy photo paper to have it still looking like a proper screen, and it is still switchable so you can order many of them.

There will still be the 3 switches on the right but will be only decorative.

I 3D modeled the model, and I print it with PLA filament. I'm available for any questions! 🚀

ℹ️ Note : Small disclaimer that there always can be some imperfections on the 3D printed parts or slight assembly issues, many of my projects being sometimes tricky to make, but any that I judge "too much" won't be kept.
